Airport-Projekt

Auch in diesem Schuljahr führten wir in den English-Plus-Kursen des 7. Jahrgangs wieder das Projekt "Airport" durch, bei dem es um das Wortfeld "Flughafen" und um die Rolle des Englischen im Umfeld eines internationalen Flughafens geht. Höhepunkt des Projekts ist immer ein Tag am Düsseldorfer Flughafen mit Interviews in englischer Sprache und einer großen Besichtigungstour.

Hier ein Bericht, den die TeilnehmerInnen geschrieben haben:

On 13th February 2012, the English Plus courses of Ms Willutzki and Mr Baguette went by train to Düsseldorf Airport.

When we arrived, we took a Skytrain from the railway station to Terminal C.

Next, we did interviews in English with people at the airport - people who work there, passengers departing and arriving, and people picking up someone.

At 11.30, we wnt by bus to the security control for airport staff. It was like a control for passenger. After going through the checks we got on the bus again and did a tour of the airport grounds. It was very interesting.

During our tour we saw big and small airplanes, the tower, the runway, and some de-icing trucks (because it had snowed in the morning) called "elephants" because they had long trunks. We took photos and videos of all these things.

Back in the terminal we did the löast interiews of the day. Finally most of us went to McDonald's and had lunch before we went back to Mülheim by S-Bahn.

The day was very nice and we learned lots of things.

2 English-Plus-Gruppen im Terminal

In einem zweiten Bericht geht es etwas emotionaler zu:

We met at Mülheim main station at 9 o’clock and took the train to Düsseldorf Airport. There, we changed to the sky train which took us to Terminal C. The ride on the sky train was a little scary because some of us were afraid that the train might fall down! But the view was very good. After that we met at the Information Point. One of our teachers told that this is where we all should meet at the end of our interviews. Then, we started to make the interviews. Each group had to make at least five interviews.

We talked to arriving people, departing people and people who worked at the airport.

After the first interviews we made a tour through the "airport city" in a bus. The bus took us to gate 1 where we had to go through security checking. That was very exciting! We had to give the guard our bags and jackets and then go through the metal detector. If you had something made of metal, the gate began beeping. We also went over the airport field where we saw many planes. A guide told us something about them. We took a lot of photos there.

After that we had a little break. Some of us still had to finish their interviews. When every pupil had finished, we took the sky train back to the railway station. We had to wait for the train very long. That was a bit boring. But the journey back was a lot of fun.

Die Interviews am Flughafen wurden auch protokolliert. Hier einige Beispiele. Zunächst ein Interview mit einem Fluggast:

Q: Where are you from?
A: Ah, I'm from Sheffield.
Q: O.k., and where are you flying to?
A: Oh, I'm flying home, to my family. I live there.
Q: And when is your take-off?
A: My take-off is at 12.20.
Q: And how long is your flight?
A: My flight is 1 hour 20 minutes.

Und eine Dame auf dem Weg in die USA:

Q: Hello. Where are you from?
A: I am from Wales.
Q: How old are you?
A: I’m 18.
Q: Do you like the airport?
A: Yes, I like the airport.
Q: How much was your ticket?
A: My ticket was 600 EUR.
Q: Where are you flying to?
A: I am flying to New York.

Und schließlich wurden auch Menschen interviewt, die am Flughafen arbeiten:

A: Emm, ihr sprecht bestimmt deutsch?
Q: Yes, and we have a project for school and we must speak English for the project.
A: Yes, I understand that.
Q: We must interview you about your job.
A: Yes, I’m clerk of the German border police. I’m twenty-one years here.
Q: Do you like your job?
A: Yes, I like my job.
Q: And…ich überlege gerade. Haben wir noch Fragen?...How may people have this job here?
A: In Düsseldorf have we here 816 people.
Q: OK. Ehm, are you busy a lot?
A: Oh yes, sometimes.
Q: Can you speak another foreign language?
A: Yes, I speak a little bit French and English.
Q: Thank you for the interview. Have a good day. Bye.
A: Thank you and bye.
